Modern Day Ghost

Poem

Frigid winds whistling their harsh tunes

—cold enough to make the 'flakes shake;

brittle enough to make the branches break.

The sun, abandoned, shames away as the sky dims gray.

Urban

Emotionless concrete sidewalks,

confettied with colorful ice melt.

Christmas's plastic wreathes still decorate the doors.

Even empty trees have patterned scarfs around them.

A flurry of fluffy coats scurry in a hurry,

back into their cozy cars

wearing their warm wool mittens

holding hot chocolates topped with tiny marshmallows

taking tiny sips as it gives tiny hugs to their full stomachs.

Outside

A modern day ghost

—Cloaked in a dingy-white discount sheet,

thin enough to see what's left,

thick enough to hold stains of ostracization.

Cheap shoes, toes that poke through,

bitten by the frost, soon to be lost.

Most likely a man, without shelter,

haunting the streets for help;

begging brrs mistaken for scary boos intentionally unseen,

until the problem just goes away.
