The Hunter and the Prey
I suppose you came like fire; torching my land
All the grass I could never grow
So naive I was to embrace the burn
Pain is the only language I know
You brushed off my baggage and confessed your love
Kneeling before my throne
You held all the power, and you knew it
I was not yet grown
How did it feel when my lungs collapsed?
Ripping my soul from my chest
You sewed your name into my skin
I honored the scar like a crest
Your voice is so loud now that you’re gone
It echoes throughout my mind
My thoughts are muffled by memories of you
Those words that rendered me blind
I broke ground with my knees and let out a scream
Just to get you out of my lungs
Still, I cannot speak of your sin
You’ve silenced a thousand tongues
I should have known better than to open the gates
Did I not hear the cries of the fae?
You came in with arrows, and I thought you were Cupid
I consented to being your prey
