Hello readers, welcome to OCpoetry. This subreddit is a writing workshop community -- a place where poets of all skill levels can share, enjoy, and talk about each other's poetry. Every person who's shared, including the OP above, has given some feedback (those are the links in the post) and hopes to receive some in return (from you, the readers).

If you really enjoyed this poem and just want to drop a quick comment, to show some appreciation or give kudos, things like "great job!" or "made me cry", or "loved it" or "so relateable", please do. Everyone loves a compliment. Thanks for taking the time to read and enjoy.

If you want to share your own poem, you'll need to give this writer some detailed feedback. Good feedback explains from your point of view what it was like to read the poem, and then tries to explain how the poem made you feel like that. If you're not sure what that means, check out our [feedback guide](https://new.reddit.com/r/ocpoetry/wiki/feedbackcritiques), or look

This is disturbing, but in the kind of way I like. Powerful imagery, to describe the maladaptive behavior involved in using pain to confront numbness. At least that’s what I take away from your writing. I appreciate you sharing you work

i love the harsh imagery you use. the short sentences are great for building a picture in my mind. great work :D

When I read first two words I had no idea how would you show pain. The phrases helped in creating the image and understanding the pain. It's hard to depict pain in a way you did. I loved the hard imagery used. For me the disgusting imagery was fascinating. Overall I felt the pain. It was a good read.

This poem is really visceral, which I like. What I want to see though is more showing less telling. A lot of people say that as a kind of cop out for giving real feedback, but (I don't think...) I'm doing that here. Engage my senses. Tell me about the teeth *clattering* against the porcelain, or blood bubbling warmly on your lips. I think these kinds of sensory descriptions could really elevate your work.

Choking

Spewing

Coughing.

Blood in the sink.

My face is pale

My jaw is aching

My eyes are tired.

Biting down.

More coughing

More blood.

Teeth in the sink.

Feels like needles.

Biting down again.

Feeling something

Feeling alive

Feeling

Pain.
