New poet jitters

Poem

It’s that time I fear most. That time before I go and press post.

I tremble and shake, about to share. I feel like I’m naked standing out there.

Will they ponder and reflect? Will they scoff and reject?

I tell myself, F it I don’t even care. It’s hard not measure, contrast and compare.

I like reaching strangers with feelings and thoughts. But it’s hard not to panic, my stomach in knots.

Maybe they’ll relate, chuckle or think. If I rip myself open perhaps my ego will shrink.

Ok here it goes, I’m not afraid. Look mom here I go, a poet’s been made.

The wording of this is so simplistic but conveys so many emotions and tones. As a writer myself I could feel the feelings of anxiety billowing up as I reread the words of you’re poem. Very well done, as writers we can be our own worse critics but hope that our writings can still convey a teaching somehow. I think you encapsulated that feeling perfectly!

Aw, thank you. You seem to really understand what I was trying to convey. Sharing my inner thoughts and feelings is not easy for me. Writing helps so much with a list of anxieties and stresses. I’m grateful you took time to stop and read my poem. Thank you so, so much.

I love the feeling you're going for because I think most everyone here can relate to those jitters the first time we posted something or shared something publicly. Bravo to that idea, I love it. The one thing I could mention to you would be that some of the timing and flow is a bit awkward to read - some lines are a bit longer than others which makes it just a tad off at times. But, your concept is solid and it's the first time I've ever read something like this before. Keep it up 😁

I appreciate your analysis, it means a lot. Thanks. It’s not easy for me to put myself out there, sharing emotions and thoughts. Writing on this sub has helped me in so many ways in my personal life. It’s cathartic really. Thank you so much for taking the time to read my poem and for offering kind words and feedback. Thanks.

Hello readers, welcome to OCpoetry. This subreddit is a writing workshop community -- a place where poets of all skill levels can share, enjoy, and talk about each other's poetry. Every person who's shared, including the OP above, has given some feedback (those are the links in the post) and hopes to receive some in return (from you, the readers).

If you really enjoyed this poem and just want to drop a quick comment, to show some appreciation or give kudos, things like "great job!" or "made me cry", or "loved it" or "so relateable", please do. Everyone loves a compliment. Thanks for taking the time to read and enjoy.

If you want to share your own poem, you'll need to give this writer some detailed feedback. Good feedback explains from your point of view what it was like to read the poem, and then tries to explain how the poem made you feel like that. If you're not sure what that means, check out our feedback guide, or look through the comment sections of any other post here, or click the links to the author's feedback above. If you're not sure whether your comments are feedback, or you have any other questions, please send us a modmail.

Think of a poem as a house you build. They’re examining the house, not you.
