My mother asks about the naked woman in my wallpaper

Poem

My mother asks about the naked woman in my wallpaper

I tell her it is Venus

When she is born from the sea foam

When she is born from the fallen genitals of Uranus

I tell my mother she is naked because she had just been born

/But how can a woman be born?/

/Shouldn’t she experience girlhood?/

/Shouldn’t she experience bleeding knees,/

/Kissing girl and boys, and/

/Developing the curves she tries to cover in vain?/

My mother has forgotten that she is a goddess.

/Who are we to deny her?/

Her body has yet to know land for its earthy feel,

As her pale feet have only known the pearl-colored shell and the waves of sea.

I wonder if she will enjoy Cyprus,

If the embracing quilt of Pomona will be enough to cover her,

If she will enjoy being a goddess.

/The white skin blinds you./

/You have fallen in love with her womanly image./

Yet my mother’s gaze lingers longer than mine.

Edit: This poem is based on the painting "The Birth of Venus." As a short background, I made a collage of the painting and put it as my background and my mother saw it and asked me who that woman was on my screen. Sorry for the formatting, Idk how to separate my stanzas or italicize on mobile.
