He Dreamt Of Strangers

Nobody seems to know me in my dreams, 

Though warm and tender figures all the same - 

Not surprised or disappointed to have met me,

Just completely unfamiliar with my face and hollow name. 

Take for take's sake, the case of the dead man

Found pinned down between a car and a tree.  

His mild smile beguiled as he beckoned me closer, 

"A moment, dear boy, if you have one that's free?" 

You're dead's what I said, though he already knew,

And seemed deeply relieved that I knew this too.

"Yes I'm dead, hence the view, but what can you do?

I lived a dead life 'til the dead life came true."

In his hand was a note addressed to his wife, 

Whom he left long ago and missed all his life.

He needed a friend to deliver this letter,

And said I'd do quite fine, if he'd just known me better.
