A While Longer

Poem

(I apologize for the format, I’m on mobile)

•

I wake the sun each morning

And release it to the sky

I forgive it as it scorns me

While I try to say goodbye

•

As I reason with the moon

The stars hold back their tears

“You all will return soon

“Just as you have for years”

•

There’s a sadness in the wind

Because she never rests

A while longer, friend

She weeps a silent “yes”

•

The waters flow from my backyard

Cool and running, evermore

Perhaps she plays the hardest part

We know her soul is sore

•

Each twilight, my dear sun returns

It’s finally time to sleep

His dreary heart and love that burns

Forever bittersweet

•

Our most beloved home is weak

Though day and night, it perseveres

Tomorrow, never guaranteed

A while longer, my sleepy dear
