The cameras: gameplay and lore significance

I just learned that the cameras that snap your picture in every level are save points. I kinda thought it was just random where you’d reset to.

Beyond that, do you think they have a lore explanation? My first thought was that it was Lava Gang/Jimmy watching your progress. But, as beings that live in the void, they might not need to rely on cameras to see what’s going on.

More obvious answer might be that it’s Monogon (and/or Sabrelake) tracking you, seeing as you’re a security threat. Would explain how they know where to send omniprojectors. But they didn’t seem to need cameras for Ford, and again I feel like they’d have more advanced methods of tracking.

Of course, could be nothing but some feedback for the player. Just curious if anyone had thoughts.

My only guess is that, when the cameras lock onto you, they seem to emit some little void particles around them, which might mean that’s how you are able to respawn there when you die

My guess was it was Jimmy as well. He's the only one constantly tracking you. Seeing as Monogon seemed to have abandoned that area, and Sabrelake never seem to come at you in force as if they know you are there.

The only time that almost happened, was after the minecart ride, but I think they were looking for cryptids. Specifically the cat, but found you instead after the opened the door.
