New Roots (an Iambic Pentameter Petrarchan sonnet attempt)
I'm charting out a course for this new life
Amidst a sea of dull yet restless void,
A limbo I can't seem to shake, employed
To drown this healing heart in listless strife.
And yet, I'm set in moving on despite
What sense of self I have that's been destroyed,
I'll take all that remains, the fractures joined,
And wander out in to the starry night.
I may not know what will become of me,
And there's no telling what the future holds,
But still I'll venture out all on my own.
My scars and baggage, wonderful debris,
I'll plant in dirt for roots to grow and mold
A path from pain toward some bright unknown.

Hi all, I hope you like the poem. It's my first attempt at a sonnet in a little while and I would appreciate any and all feedback, especially on where I can improve the meter. I know it's bound to be off in a lot of places but I tried to keep it as close as I could. Anyway, thanks!!
