My recent shrooms trip
Putting it into words
I.
I lift my hands
And see the tiny digits
As a baby grasps
For his mother’s hand
But again she is gone—
She has left, and
He is alone
II.
A swelling in my chest
Returning from the nonverbal
Innocence of infancy
At 26 years old
I finally sense the sadness
Behind the Fear
In my mother’s eyes
II.
The wave crashes
Onto the shore
Of my mind
I want you to know
I am safe now
I want you to know
There’s no need to be afraid
III.
The chaos—
The intolerable Vibration
That lived within me—
Has calmed
As the wave retreats
To wash away
The storm’s debris
IV.
I will always love you
Though the intolerable Vibration
Still lives inside you
And though you failed to protect me
From the dangers you knew
I know that the Vibration
Has blinded you
V.
I can now sense
A sense of Me
A sense of Us
A sense of safety
And so again
(Only in my mind) I reach out to grasp
My mother’s hand
VI.
You are safe, now
You are loved, now
You are free, now
You can breathe, now
You can smile, now
You can laugh, now
We are safe
