Tribute to the Dead and Grateful

Poem

Bible Belt dragon, where’d you get those matches?
Wouldn’t spend an eternity with you,
even in Heaven.

What pit did you fly from,
and why did you choose my street?
Wouldn’t it be better
If we never had to meet.

You preach salvation,
but condemn the man,
who loves their neighbors more than you can.

I can see by the sign in your unkept claw,
all the hate in your heart.
I’d like to run,
but my shoes are falling apart.

Not like you,
with black alligator boots,
that darkness runs from your sole to your roots.

Burn your cross,
and get back to your cage.
Locked in a worldview
trademarked by rage.

Shit show hot shot,
I’ll meet you at the crossroads.
That way I know which way to not go.

If mercy’s a business,
and your dreams come true.
I’ll wish more than ashes,
to pay those devilish dues.

Damnation and shame might pay your bills,
I got nothing for that.
Except maybe chills.

Dig me a hole, and I’ll bring a blanket.
Take a chance and maybe dance in my grave.
All the while your pyres rising.
Love will be what it is regardless.

After awhile the fire will go down,
and even if I’m dead
I’ll still be grateful to be rid of you.
