a devils lament
I am attached to countless strings
which loosely slink round your heart and soul
slyly tied and tightly wound the likes of me
cast out into the deep outer dark beyond the sky
far enough away from the good earth
that all these strings form a thick red rope.
and since it is just me and your far flung heartstrings
you may let the unknown tempt you into the space you all so love to go
and find the forgotten, the rotten, and the blasphemous ole me,
so please, keep up the good work killing, send some more blood bleeding
as you righteously feed the belly of your lost devil.
I am attached to you and I will get my due.
I am awfully far out into space here
and by god am I thirsty.

I’m interpreting this in two contradictory ways. First interpretation is that the devil is the negative thoughts or depression within the person in the poem. Second interpretation is that humanity as a whole is the person in this poem, and the devil is all of the negative experiences people have when they slip through the cracks of society.
Would be very interested to hear if either of these interpretations was the intend one, or if I am just misreading this.
hmmm, are those contradictory interpretations? don't we all have the capability to "slip through the cracks"? cracks in enough souls, enough people, become cracks in society and you have to ask... what is cracking all these souls.
this piece just sort of came out of nowhere but i love the idea that we may fear something we would call the devil but what if they were like super far away. like deep into outer space. so far that we can never know or find them but, we still fear them. we were told to fear but is it that fear alone that keeps us connected to the devil?
are we so afraid of monsters that we keep creating them to fear?
thank you for the read! :)
