Invisible Ink
Today, I lent him one page from my red notebook.
I tore it out and handed it to him, carefully
And as he started writing with his left hand
His right hand’s fingers entangled with mine
His pen traces over my page,
working quickly, carelessly.
Then he folded the paper up
And handed it to me.
As I unfolded the crane, I looked up at him
Full of joy and gratitude
And a black hole looked back at me.
I let go of his hand, and he embraced me
As he clung onto me, I stared at the paper below me
Like his eyes, it was blank.
I traced my finger over the page,
Only to be greeted with a void of words,
A void of love.
Unwrapping myself from his sickening squeeze
I gave a sigh and walked away.
I left our evergreen field, red notebook in my hand.
I return to re-endure this the next day.
