Darkness

Poem

I had a dream

A dream where we weren’t away

A dream where the world stopped as the sky turned orange

A dream where I could walk with you, forever

I woke up to sounds of sharp screaming

There was no sky

Only waves stopping me as I tried to swim up

I was drowning

Drowning in a black ocean

Where light does not reach

Where there are no mermaids to give me company

Where there was no life to relate to

I could only swim

With hopes of someday reaching the shore

I kept swimming, reminding myself that there lies an end

But then I heard a voice

A voice telling me to let go

A voice telling me to hand myself over to the dark

I let go

I let the darkness overcome me

And I found myself in a dream

A dream where we never met

A dream where the sky was always dark

A dream where I could not feel your warmth

A light breeze woke me up

And I was here

The soft sand on the shore embraced me

As the orange sky gave me shade

I see your kind smile, with my half open eyes

That’s when I truly let go

For I was no longer dreaming
