Watching video of myself

Rant/Vent

Man.. I had no idea how much and how awkwardly I move my body around until I recently had to watch a video of myself for work.

Ugh. I wish I could just sit still. I like my autism for a lot of things but the way I use my body is NOT one of them.

Feeling super insecure today =(

If it helps: NT people might not be AS awkward but still often feel similarly about watching themselves in video.

For me I tend to cringe more at my own voice.

Yes, this is what I'm hearing from others. Helps a little!

Learning how to dance helped me learn how to have better control of my body. Still very clumsy. Had to learn to laugh at silly I look sometimes!

I have been trying out dancing by myself in my room and its definitely super fun. Might be scary to try a class though =/

I did a class and, while scary, was certainly worth it! I highly recommend going to clubs or school dances and mimicking/copying other people's dance moves. Anyone you think is a good dancer.

Also treating your footsteps as a beat. You can feel it from head to toe :) Inner rhythm is super important for developing music skill and I have found it helps me in conversations and pacing myself in general.

Thanks so much! This is awesome advice.

You got it! As an ultra masked undiagnosed person for almost 30 years I figured all kinds of stuff out without knowing it. Music and everything related to it have literally saved my life for almost 2 decades now!

I'm the same with recordings of my voice.

Ive never been taped at work but do occasionally have people ask why my shoulders twitching, which is a thing that happens occasionally.

Not much you can do about it i'm afraid other than realise that people outside your body see you like this all the time and are cool with it.
