Twin Flame
The stars aligned when I met you.
Our connection was intertwined by soul ties.
My twin flame.
Consumed in each other, utterly entranced by the near closeness.
Maybe it was this lifetime to find each other.
Maybe we could set each other on fire.
The flames ignited enough passion inside us to fight through our past mistakes.
Lifetimes of hurt, but still we found each other.
You made me feel alive,
In a world that was dead.
But the fire started to sear my skin,
Traveling deeper and deeper into my bones.
Breaking, ripping, shredding into nothingness.
We were truly burning now.
Being torn apart by this inferno as we stayed intertwined.
I was losing limbs, my face beginning to melt against the flames.
Blinded, I held onto you like you weren’t killing me.
Because you were everything I thought I needed.
Only to realize your dwindled fingers were sliding themselves away from mine.
My heart began to burn but I still hung on,
Truly believing you were everything I need to survive.
My body began to crumble against the flames, half of me was a pool of ashes at my feet.
And I was truly dying.
Our love was no longer a savior, but a damnation.
A death sentence.
And it was too late.
The fire was extinguished when I fell to the ground.
Barely recognizable as human.
And there was so much darkness, enough to make me believe that the flames were better.
Because at least I could see
I reached for you in the blackness, called to you, begged you for more.
Only to realize that you were no longer there.
Unable to move, I laid there trying to pull my ashes close to me.
Screaming in the dark, my body began to mold back together.
Slowly, excruciatingly, but I realized I was healing.
Healing enough to stand.
Healing enough to walk to the light again.
Healing enough to see you behind me in the darkness.
And strong enough to walk away from your flame ignited hand reached out towards mine.
