Feeling aside, what chance do you realistically give Mexico of making it past the group stages?

100% we getting knocked out in the round of 16

Yup if we’re lucky 100%. Was just thinking recently, sucks that our rivals USA and Costa Rica were able to reach the 5th game. Meanwhile it’s just seems impossible.. unattainable for Mexico to reach 🫤

miamielhAmerica•

Costa Rica was extremely lucky to face Greece and not Ivory Coast (who was robbed) and Aguirre gave the game to the u.s. no way he didn’t have money on the line and betted against us

65-75% They can beat Poland. Should beat them. They will beat SA. They can at least tie argentina. I'd say there's a chance they can even beat Argentina. Arrogant foos.

Mexico beating Argentina will be the only way Martinoli will say “PUTAAAAAAA MADREEEE”. Salinas Pliego should give him a pass. That’s moment where you let it slide.

For sure lol. How the hell can I see them in the US? I haven't seen TV azteca games since I got dish or directtv.

I don't know if you'd need a VPN, odds are you would but, tv azteca broadcasts their channels online to mexico, so maybe you can use a vpn and enter tv Azteca's website.

Might try this. Thanks!

For you guys, if Mexico beats Argentina is that enough to overlook Tata’s losses to the USMNT?

2
AEWWCCruz Azul•

Not for me. Hell no. For me it's more about just beating Argentina because they've talked a ton. For the players that deserve to be there. For the fans. It'd be a good moment.

If he makes it to quinto partido or beyond we Can forget about the shit show he’s been a leading.

Martinoli is lowkey rooting for Argentina, he’s always looks like a bandwagon snake

If they tie Argentina it’s a win in my book

As I already said before, Mexico is not at their best right now but this is the easiest group we have had since 2006 (to progress to knock out stages)

Plus europeams teams tend to underperform in world cups outside of europe (in terms of getting out group stage)

pacofvfAmerica•

Also Argentina always underperforms in the group stage.

1
SMatarratasMonterrey•

Ehh I would not say they play at their best but Argentina get the results anyway

2018: 4 points.
2014: 9 points.
2010: 9 points.
2006: 7 points.
2002: 4 points. (Out in group stage)
1998: 9 points.

Tbh its Poland, not trying to be disrespectful but its a game that we SHOULD win, the same goes for Saudi Arabia.

Obviously Argentina is our "Coco" but f you remember the 2014 WC Argentina struggle in their Group with Nigeria and Iran, so it's not completely decided.

So, id say about a 80%.

After the game against Poland that percentage will either increase slightly or decrease dramatically

It all comes down to the Poland game

This is the first time I think there’s no expectations for the team to advance the group stages. Legitimately no one thinks we can pull through. There is optimism that we can beat Poland and Saudi Arabia but that’s it. Given. That I think we will make an upset and get out of the group stage.

7

I’ve only watched two world cup’s, and I feel like for the last one after beating Germany confidence was sky high that that team could make it far. Then we kind of went downhill.

That being said, I think even then there was some optimism going in.

This one, you’re right. I feel like people are just watching to watch and support, but with the expectation that we won’t make it far. I think Tata can still give us a little bit more optimism IF he decides to keep some players in the final roster (i.e Santi instead of Funes/Jimenez and Johan instead of Ángulo, and even Erick over romo, herrera, or charly)

Johan has been erased from a barely promoted team.

High, weather is in MNT favor. Polish and Argentinian players aren't used to the heat. Exhaustion can play a factor if Mexico plays to park the bus.

I didn’t even think about this but you might be on to something here

Poland isn't a super team and definitely beatable . Argentina isn't as good as people say they are to win the WC even if they have a decent unbeaten streak. Saudi is straight up unadulterated ass. We should finish with realistically 4-6 pts

México will make it to el quinto partido. Second in their group. Plays against Denmark, who finish first in their group. In a major surprise, México beats Denmark. Everyone raises a monument to tata Martino in el Zocalo and the hashtag perdónanos tata trends for a couple days. En el quinto partido, México faces they US (look up the brackets, could happen). México loses against the US. Mexicans tear down the statue to tata Martino. Los seleccionados and cuerpo técnico do not dare to set foot in México as fans camp in the international airport for days con machete en mano. El tri officially se viene a vivir a gringolandia.

Everyone agrees we should be able to beat Poland. However, we've seen that our attacking prowess is just not there, so that game could just as easily end in a goaless draw - especially since Poland, being in Europe, has fair experience playing as the weaker side.

Saudi Arabia on the other hand (based on games from their qualifying campaign) appears to play a more open game, leaving them more vulnerable to us.

Bottom line, I think what it's going to come down to is how we perform against SA coupled with the Poland and SA result.

My final table prediction:

Argentina 9 pts Mexico 4 pts Poland 2 pts Saudi Arabia 1 pts

Birdy_17•

If beat Poland 🇵🇱 definitely have 80% but if loses against Poland I'd said that 10%

The funniest thing that could happen is Mexico somehow topping the group and then france getting second in theirs

My only argument is that we are pessimistic before every WC group stage and somehow the nt give us good matches

It's all about Poland. A game which I feel is a coin flip since neither of us look particularly convincing. Yet they do have an obvious advantage. We have a chance against them but with our defense which is very prone to mistakes all they need is for our defenders to fall asleep for a second and Lewandowski probably won't miss. Setpieces are also a huge concern and will be asshole clenchers throughout the tournament.

If we win that game then I'd give us a 80% chance of advancing as long as there isn't a monumental bed shitting against the Saudis. If we lose to Poland then we're screwed and have a 15% of going through barring a huge shock win against Argentina which in itself is very unlikely. If we tie I'd put it at a 40% as it it might come down to who can violate Saudi Arabia the most and we aren't packing a lot of heat so I'm not liking our odds.
