Should I watch Steeplechase?

I’ve followed along with the podcast from the end of Amnesty until the end of Ethersea, and I’ve kind of been liking it less and less as the shows been going on. Is Steeplechase good/worth it so far?

I am enjoying Steeplechase so far! But also there’s definitely differences in preference. The later seasons they’ve done (especially Ethersea) are definitely a lot more focused on telling a good story/lots of details, which is cool, but it’s definitely a very different feel from the first one, Balance. Balance was a lot more goofs and three hilarious guys trying to figure out DnD and messing up in hilarious ways, and then they really did wrap it up into a great story. There’s still foods in the newer seasons but definitely a different feel.

I’d recommend Balance as always because it’s amazing, and maybe you can get a good feel for what you enjoy most

Steeplechase has far exceeded my expectations.

I think Steeplechase benefits from Justin taking the GM chair for a season for the first time despite being so resistant till now. It gives things some of that freshness and opening night jitters that early Balance had.

I also think he has an impulse to push against things and find holes in situations that helps things stay playful and makes the most out of the ttrpg format. He's always played his characters in creative improvisational ways and I'm hoping he'll run a game with plenty of scope for the others to do the same.

Some folks seem uncertain about the world/logic of Steeplechase and I get that but I have faith that it'll either evolve into something coherent or there's more lore to be uncovered there. Or not - It's pretty fun for now IMO.

Did you skip Balance?

No, I meant I started listening to the show around when Amnesty ended, I’m all up to date other than dust season 2

Steeplechase is a return to form, definitely. Justin running it has been good because he has been a unique world creator. For sure he comes having planned, but he also includes the rest of the group in populating the realm.

That being said, i think the seasons usually start off really well. Based on what I've heard, i still think it is worth trying.

Like most of the seasons Steeplechase takes a few episodes before it gets its footing. But of all the seasons, this one is the most original setting. I do agree with Dzweshy_redpanda, Balance was the most involved and epic adventure, its excellent. That one probably takes the longest to find its legs, but it is absolutely worth it.
