I feel like I'm living in the Twilight Zone

Relationship / Family

My gosh I cannot get over the vast majority of humans who finds it not only acceptable but actually appropriate to divorce your spouse in favor of your unruly, disrespectful, untrained, selfish, attention starved, jealous and aggressive dog. The spouse is considered the evil being because they find it unacceptable (as they should) that an animal runs the house. The spouses disdain is unacceptable but peeing and pooping in the bed, on the children's toys, biting the children and causing hospitalizations, chewing all valuable items, demanding immediate and exclusive attention or causing hell, purposely ignoring commands, etc is acceptable?????

Help me to understand people please. How in the world did humanity get to this point? Is it in the water? Are some of us hybrids therefore not in sync with the "others" that appear to be exactly the same as us? I truly feel like I'm living in the Twilight Zone. It's borderline depressing because EVERYONE seems to be hypnotized by dogs. Do they lick a person once and automatically cast a spell? None of it makes sense. I can feel the end of an era happening and I'm not overreacting. People are choosing their horrible hideous creatures over their own children and spouses in record numbers. He'll at least let the mutt act civilized. Nope! They're dangerous fury shits that only want your food and attention and they become more important than your own children??? Lifelong spouses? A lick is a curse/spell or something. Help me to understand.

In a nutshell, people have found that they can make easy money out of dogs. So it is the gloves-off market forces Capitalism at work here with its concept of "I'm making money here and fuck anybody who doesn't like it".

Some of the dog owners actually like or love dogs and other dog owners want to be seen to be liking or loving dogs because they want to be popular and fit in with the crowd.

ME EITHER! In fact, I'm very proud to be dog-free, in all of it's splendour!

I can't understand it either. From what I've gathered, this is bigger issue in Western Society. I had a friend from Pakistan and she was like most of us here; couldn't stand dogs or their owners.

Its definitely a product of capitalism and just the general decline of society.

We're CHEWY! Why bother having a social life when you can pick up dog shit off the floor of your house every day?

BanDogsNOW•

But it seems so universal. Even other countries are doing the worship.

12

Yes, unfortunately the USA’s biggest export is pop culture. It’s insidious, dogs as perfect companions or heroes is pushed in media, especially childrens’ media, big time.

The rot is spreading. ☹️

My friend of 20 years had a hellhound (unfortunately he got it after we'd started being friends, if he had had it when we met we wouldn't become friends, I hate dogs that much) that he finally had PTS 6 months ago...I thought 'thank fuck, we can finally have a social life that doesn't mean he leaves everything early to get back to the sodding dog'...less than 3 weeks later he's wasted £600 on a fucking puppy.

He's still whinging that he has no friends (apart from me) and no social life. Too stupid to work out why.

My ex left me, with our one year old, because I hated her evil hybrid brute that kept putting me in hospital.

She chose the dog over me.

Wanted to kill myself. Still do, a lot of the time

Complex_Ad_4284•

You deserve better, that ex is a danger to the kid.

39
Stayknocking•

Your ex sounds like an asshole and through time I’m sure you’ll realise you’ve been pushed into a better direction ultimately because someone like that clearly doesn’t align with your morality. I’m sorry you feel like that but your kid needs you and the world needs you 💕

Another life destroyed by mans best friend

17
ritmacOP•

She blessed your entire life and that of the child. Your life was saved by her taking the dog away. It's time for you to enjoy life without fear of being mauled.

12

Kept putting you in hospital? I hope it didn't attack you all the time?

6

It did.

3

That's horrid. I would never tolerate a pet that hurt a loved one. Glad it wasn't your child that got injured!

2
Dburn22_•

Please get help. You were done dirty, and that really hurts, especially with a child involved. She drank the kool-aid, and that's a shame. You are still you, and the better person.

5
muglandry•

Holy shit that is a level of cold and sick that I thought was only fit for true crime.

I just want to offer, don’t put this on yourself or wonder if you are somehow faulty. Fuck no. Anybody that could abandon their own child - and someone that loves them! - for a greedy inbred scavenger has a level of damage that no decent person could guess. That woman is on a level with demons.

Stay with us and with your community and most of all with your child, please. Don’t go. You can rebuild your life, you can get support and help, you can look back on this in decades and maybe see the meaning or even the benefit of these days.

You are the good one. You are the parent who stayed! My father left our family, I can see what a lottery your baby won because he still has a loyal parent and a hero. I care about your situation personally because I lived some of that. And I’ve lived a long time. Sometimes life kicks your ass, but the beauty is worth it and the beauty always comes back.

Dogs seem to have become an easy escape for people that can’t form healthy relationships with their own kind. To back that up and exacerbate the problem, dog nuts have made their crutch mutts into some kind of protected class. We can’t say anything about the terrible behavior of the untrained dog, we can’t expect dogs to be disallowed anyplace, and damn us all to hell if we simply say we personally aren’t crazy about dogs.

Because these unhygienic, unattractive, uncivilized beasts fill a void for some highly busted people, society is being held hostage. The sickest among us are ruling the roost through sheer bullying. My personal take.

40

This is what I see going on.

People are choosing the lowest tier relationships (with animals) because they don’t know how, or don’t want to, fix their own damage.

13
muglandry•

“Their own damage” now damn this is good! It’s why I love hanging out here, I can go on and on talking about a point and you guys can distill it into some real meaning in a few words. I am going to be using that phrase in my day to day, best believe.

2

Yeah. I don’t mean damage in a mean spirited way, though, or that they caused it themselves.

A lot of people come from messed up childhoods or backgrounds. It’s not our fault, but it is our problem to fix it. And projecting on a dog is just avoiding the real issues.

4
muglandry•

I don’t see dog-leaning or “emotional support dogs” as much different than self-medicating to avoid facing things. So absolutely yes.

3
Dburn22_•

Very well stated. I love your whole post, especially "dog nuts have made their crutch mutts into some kind of protected class."

Yes, "the sickest (nutters)are ruling the roost through sheer bullying." Have I ever had a dog owner NOT become downright hostile to me when I've expressed my right to not have their dog around me? NO.

Do dog owners muzzle their meat-eating hounds when they impose them upon society? NO.

2
muglandry•

It’s the two things that make me a “crazy dog hater.” People have lost the decency to train their dogs, they want to baby them, but dogs need structure and boundaries to feel safe. To just function! It makes a mess and it’s really just cruel to the dogs too.

More so, the way the really weird dog nuts will just force their dogs into public places that aren’t appropriate, into social situations they don’t belong, and how they judge anybody that isn’t interested. It’s such a high level of rude selfishness that I can’t personally believe the dog nuts or their mothers don’t have more shame.

MrsBagnet•

There's an epidemic of loneliness, particular in Western countries. There's a loss of connection with community. People are filling that void with animals because making connections with other humans is too hard or scary.

31
Complex_Ad_4284•

People like them better because animals, can't tell them no, it's very creepy in fact.

26
Beccabunga13•

This. The dog never disagrees with them. You could be abusive towards it and it would still like you. Other humans however are annoying because they have their own opinions and values and you have to work at relationships. Likewise parenting is challenging. Why have all that hassle when you can have a furry puppet that gives "unconditional love" (as dog people will tell you)!

12

Somebody once said that animals are liked better than humans for the same reasons children are liked better than adults. They don't pose a threat to the ego and are seen as dumb/pure/innocent

happyhappyfoolio•

I think this is a huge part of it. As society becomes more secular, there just isn't that community support that there used to be like when more people went to church. People don't know their neighbors anymore. When I moved into my suburban house, I went around and knocked on the doors of my neighbors and introduced myself. Most of them had an attitude like, "Wtf are you doing, get off my porch." I did get to know my next door neighbor that way, so it wasn't a complete waste of time.

There definitely is a growing societal acceptance of the attitude of, "Fuck other people. Take care of you and yours." and that extends to dogs.

13
DO5421•

This has gotten pretty sad tbh. I actually remember the days when it was normal to hang out with neighbors, know their names, borrow a cup of sugar, make friends without school or the internet, and most importantly not be afraid to walk on the sidewalk cause it wasn’t a turd minefield back then. Going outside used to actually be pleasant because it was reasonably clean, not as noisy, people actually liked their neighbors (as long as they weren’t assholes), dog owners were much less common and the few that were in my neighborhood actually cleaned up after their dogs and didn’t take them into grocery stores cause they actually valued the quality of their living space/neighborhood. Seems like nowadays fewer and fewer people care anymore about having a nice town or city cause they all got their heads too far up their own asses.

Dogs are parasitic animals and humans are the hosts. Plain and simple

19
ivarpuvar•

I don't care what other people choose over something else. People can choose what they want.

However if they bring a barking/shitting dog to the park then it is annoying. It bothers me that I have to put up with that and some people even support it.

14
ThoreauAway1900•

Honestly it’s posts like this that make me feel whole and completely validated, which is sad because of how unacceptable society has deemed it to have any tiny ill feelings towards the shitbeasts that control it.

13

Yes I do honestly feel like I’m stuck in some twilight zone bullshit and have been for a long time. I see stuff a certain way and it seems like this world is full of gaslighters and narcissists.

(Random but In the anime re:zero the main character dies because a “shaman” winds up putting a curse on him. It turned out the curse was transferred from a dog who bit him. Once they called the dog out it turned into some large hellhound type beast.)

11
FascinatingFall•

People forgot that dogs weren't for companionship but for hunting and protecting.

11
MrsBagnet•

Right. I feel kind of sorry for big dogs especially because they are being forced to live in ways that are not natural and that are not what they were bred for.

8
HorrorAirline6137•

Like other posters have said, everyone is so alienated and disconnected from each other, that dogs have come to fill the gap. More and more, people are moving to big cities where they're becoming more distant from each other, living in tiny condos that you can't possibly start a family in, and it's all very impersonal. There's no community anymore, and the traditional ways of meeting people are becoming harder and harder. People don't have the skills or patience to form human relationships. It's easier just to cohabitate with some disgusting shit-machine that has a brain the size of a walnut that won't challenge you in any way.

11

I think the world has gone a bit mad with dogs, the whole letting dogs into restaurants I think is absolutely disgusting I refuse to go to a restaurant that allows dogs in (unless it's a guide dog). Dogs should not be in a restaurant or anywhere where there is food. I don't what to be eatting my food with a dog watching me are if it shaking and its fur ending up in my food.

When you grow up with dogs, you tend to have an affection for them. It’s how I was at least. It wasn’t until I moved out of my parents house and lived pet-free for years that I realized how odd it is to actually own (a) another alive and sentient being, and (b) a literal animal in the confines of a clean and orderly house.

It’s just weird. I would never own a pet of any kind now. I’m completely grossed out when I visit other people that have them. Yet, the rules of our society dictate that I fawn over dogs and pretend to find them adorable. Lol

7
Dburn22_•

Please don't fake it just for them. You have a right to be comfortable, and a right to no contact with these gross beasts.

2
dogfree_alt•

I think it could be parasites in the dog's shit, which are tracked into said dog owners' homes and then ingested when they let the dog kiss and lick their faces. Does it sound crazy? Yes! But is it possible, actually also yes. These nutters have worms in their brains!

6
Dburn22_•

Totally feasible. Another good reason never to date a nutter.
