A daughter no more

Poem

You used to always tell me

how all you ever wanted was

a daughter.

But instead all you got was this

“nasty little girl”

and you just didn’t understand

Why she hated you so...

But you never bothered to listen

to that little girl.

When she told you

you were hurting her,

When she begged you to stop

and asked you to change.

Instead you told her

she was mistaken.

That you would never do such a thing,

you loved her.

After all, you always wanted

a daughter

But instead all you got was this

Mean bitch

who used to be such a

sweet little girl.

And you just didn’t understand

Why she didn’t love you so

anymore…

How could a daughter not love her mother?

Provider of life,

Divine loving overlord.

What a sin to hate one’s mother.

Birthing a child such a burden to bear;

a debt that can never be repaid.

You deserve all the love and praise in the world

for giving a life not asked for.

But you forgot that the life you birthed

grew into a human being.

One with feelings, needs, and thoughts,

other than your own.

You forgot that you needed to actually give love

if you expected to receive.

You forgot that that being would develop memories,

and you could not erase the ones

that did not fit your narrative;

though you tried.

And you just can’t understand

why you lost your daughter.

After all,

It’s all you ever wanted
