Autoshift in terminal in Ubuntu 22.04.1

I recently got a new computer and put Ubuntu 22.04.1 on it. I have the Moonlander, and everything is fine as expected except that autoshift doesn't seem to work in Terminal. Long presses on keys yield their usually lowercase, unshifted characters. (It works everywhere else.)

On my old computer, I was running Ubuntu 20, and autoshift was fine in Terminal.

Does anyone have any idea about what could be going on?

Did you try a non qmk kb?

I don't have a non QMK kb that has autoshift. What should I be trying with one?

If you try with a different keyboard and it’s still not working then you have eliminated the moonlander as a variable.

Oh, the Moonlander works fine if I manually hit shift. Other keyboards (at least the ones I have) don't have autoshift, which is the feature that doesn't work (only in Terminal and other system applications, though)

I did not know what autoshift was. TIL

OK, so what had happened is that in Ubuntu 21, Ubuntu had switched to Wayland as the default display server (which also coordinates input). Before, it had been Xorg.

I guess Wayland somehow thwarts autoshift. I logged out and logged back in under XOrg, and autoshift worked in Terminal again.

It sounds like this. Not sure if there is an actual solution there though.

I don't think it's changing the input language. Left shift (and autoshift) still work in applications that aren't Terminal or the file navigator. (But they do work in system search, though.) I wonder if it's a case of the applications looking for keydown instead of keyup.
