Grief Walker
Maybe this is grieving -
Retching
Internal organs
The body consumed
A black hole
Maybe we are meant to wail in the streets
At our loss
Loss after loss after loss after loss
Fodder for more loss
Maybe grief is meant to feel this way
My molecules
Vibrate and quake
Ready to shatter at any moment
Don’t you see my cracks?
Those dividing lines – my tectonic plates
Cities upturned
And the fires …
My skin, a blanket of embers
I am grief
Walking
Grief Walker
You already know that you will lose
We
Are
Loss
The center is split open
The sweet smell of a lover
Sitting next to grandma in bed
Little brother playing
The dog cradled in my belly
Playing mancala with my dad
It pours out of my gaping mouth
As sheets strewn together with knots
The grief escapes
As one does out of the tallest window in the tallest tower
To the deepest depths
of death
Because it never ends
The body can not contain it
Like an animal whose neck was in jaw’s fate
I tremble
I shake
Grief walker
My friend
Let us wail
