WAIT, WHY WON'T YOU THANK ME?
You wince and squirm from the inevitable shock
As I caress your bruise with a cube of ice
Stinging my bare skin in an attempt to heal yours
I wait for you to thank me
But you're focused on your own pain
While I forget to feel the cold
Focusing on my attempt to rid you of it
And I wait for you to thank me
But ice melts
And bruises heal
And you return to your life
Forgetting me here
Sitting by the freezer
Waiting for you to thank me
Next time you bruise
You'll find ice elsewhere
And behind my frozen walls I'll wait
Until I crack and break
When I hear you thank them instead.
