Couplets exist to be expressed, no need to apologize for employing a defined structure if that's how your expression came to form. These are nice and tight.

Yeah, definitely tapped into a theatre kids soul for that one, though it's all rather literal. Trying to evoke imagery and sensation. I have hyperphantasia and these are usually inspired by my nightmares.

Couplets are fine. And these work quite well. I started reading and saw a theatre, effective monologue to set a scene. Nice and dark.

Adrift in the abyss;

A slave to its cold kiss;

Unfortunate to be slayed;

Unbound and flayed;

Worn and weary;

Cold and bleary;

Forgotten wants;

Oblivion taunts;

Unending silence;

Internal violence;

When nightmares stalk;
