letter 1.

Workshop

i’m sorry

for every callous word

with which

i twisted the knife

i found in your side,

ANGRY

that you were not

who i hoped you were.

but then

you took that knife

and slit my throat

to medicate your pain

with mine.

I wrote this years ago to process a traumatic experience in which I played no small part in causing suffering, yet was also a victim of much greater wrong. I'm distant enough from the experience to just want to improve the poem. I'm interested in making it more visceral and gruesome and horrific, but not sure where to start or how! Let me know what you think of the poem and any suggestions you may have!
