to consume
when you’re away I eat things
that are sharp and bite back
like cucumbers soaked in salt and vinegar
and the sweetest thing is the drizzle
of sesame oil
and it’s not even sweet but it’s
smokey and round enough to
smooth out the edges and remind me
there are soft things
there are other things
/
and when you are here i
cook for you i
am in the kitchen covered in
flour and my hands are sticky with
dough and i hope you will
send this to all your friends
look
you’ll say
look what she made for me
she put her soul in this and we consumed
it together and now
there is nothing left
and i am full and sated and she is
beside me and
hollow still
there won’t be anything left
for tomorrow
/
baby i want you to love me
like you love the flour on my clothes
like you love my sticky hands
like you love the mess i leave behind
like you show off the photos
to your friends
like you brag about not bragging about
your jobs and who you are and who
you will soon be
/
baby i want you to sink your teeth
into my soft edges and consume
but baby i want you to leave
something for tomorrow
Edit: Will I ever get Reddit’s mobile app to cooperate with my wonky ass poem formats? Not likely. Sorry for the funky read
