Jellybean Jar
Close your eyes.
Stick your hand in my candy jar heart.
Rummage your fingers
Through the assortment I present
Until one of them pleases you.
Pull it out.
Is it everything you dreamed it’d be?
Whatever the flavor, will you savor me?
Did I offer the right selection
For your palate’s delection?
Will you reach for another?
Will you find my hidden stash
Of bitter wounds and coarse opinions
Tangled in saccharine memories
And mangled emotions?
Will you stay only until you’ve had your fill?
Will you lick it, just to put it back
For the next person to fuss
With disgust, because some of me
has already been touched?
I’ll just hide that one too.
My essence implores your soul
To crave mine and affirm:
My flavors don’t need attenuated
To be deemed palatable.
