Lovers not meant to be

Poem

Late nights I’m forced to relive all our memories,

Tossing and turning hoping to shake them off.

Sweat urgently escaping my glands,

Glimmers of your ecstasy conveyed in the drops.

An ecstasy which abruptly seizes,

As the covers quench their thirst.

My version of counting sheep is,

Imaging realities where I never met you.

Were all those feelings I had, one sided?

All those pointless visions of a future together?

All those times you said you loved me?

Now that I think about it,

You only responded.

But your kisses were sincere, right?

The times we’ve smiled together were sincere, right?

The times we pointlessly argu-

Wow, ”love” really does blind you.

Your kisses were sloppy and disingenuous.

Your smile lacked contribution from your eyes.

And not to mention,

All those arguments you won with the threat of your departure.

It’s as though you and my destiny worked together,

To deliver this blow.
