A Melancholy Whisper

Poem

Please take this pill
It will make you all better
My body becomes numb
And it’s almost alright

I feel pain but I cannot cry
There’s a permanent indent on the bed
From my motionless body
The summer is too hot
The winter is too cold
This house and body are a prison of safety

We will try the white pill
The round one, the orange and oblong shaped one
Take with food, on an empty stomach
Not after 5pm, right when you wake up
I’m feeling rage and despair
I just want to scream
But I’ll take the next pill
And just go to sleep

A new therapist, another new face
An old man, a curly haired dark woman
They say “It’s your childhood, your upbringing
Your trauma, your outlook”
Another round on the Ferris wheel
I pay them 500$ and a fake smile
I can’t stand talking anymore

I’m looking at the world through a 5x4 window
Listening to children laughing in the spring
I feel jealousy and remember
When I felt laughter in my heart
I’m in a constant state of mourning
Because that person is dead

Treatment resistant
Atypical depression
They’re just synonyms for
You’re shit out of luck
