Intoxicated Sultry Night

For the shortest hours I’ve ever known,

Together we danced, under midnight skies-

Tasting melodies groove through our skin

As electric strobes blinded our eyes.

My pupils widened and his smile grew brighter,

Limbs flooding with overwhelming glee-

Through making love with innocent intimacy,

Never have I felt so very free.

We both drank our different poison,

I was up, and he was on ketamine.

He craved the mellowness from downers,

And I chased the rush from amphetamines.

Never have I questioned the mystery

Of how his soul made its way to mine,

For the way our skin melts in its reunion

Sends a sweet rhapsody down my spine.

With all my strength, I savored the night,

But dawn had a mission to subdue-

The electric romance we swayed upon

Is one I’ll struggle to construe.

We have all but time on our side,

Yet till it’s end, my devotion will pour-

For life is a short journey to be lived,

Though I know we’ll find each other once more.
