I’m not 100% sure what gin we have in stock because I can’t see anything! Our prices, I hope, aren’t too low?

Tastes like a London dry gin with a hint of lime. Very good, you should try it if you have a chance.

It is unusual, gotta give it that. I suspect many people just automatically react to the bug thing. Not my cup of tea (I’ve always found limes to be sufficiently limey lol), but I appreciate the post.

Not my cup of tea

Well, it's not anyone's cup of tea.

So this might sound weird... back when we had some 6th grade camp they had us eat fire ants, the ends of them at least, and it 100% tastes like lime. So i'm quite positive it tastes like lime from the ants lol

Thanks for the review, it's been on my must try list for ages but I forgot to visit the stall they had when I was at a gin festival a few months ago for a sample...

So similar to Sams Island gin? The ants make it taste like orange

I haven't tried Sam's Island, but yes the ants give a limey citris flavor. It's very good, I really enjoyed it neat.

Also Australian botanicals are very different than the juniper that I am familiar with, they have a much more menthol/eucalyptus twist that suprised me

Lemon Myrtle is in like 90% of Aussie gins lol. They don't tend to be Juniper heavy, very citrus and floral forward most of the time. I've tried many of them, the ones I liked the most so far:

Archie Rose Signature Gin

Ink

Dasher & Fisher Ocean Gin

Poor Toms Strawberry gin

Many people like the Four Pillars Shiraz (I can't remember the taste lol)

If you want something different, try Hartshorn Gin Sheep Whey. I haven't tried it but a friend told me it's nice. They use actual sheep milk whey. Can't get more different than that, can it?

If you want to try some New Zealand gins I highly recommend Reid + Reid. Peppery, lemony, floral... it has it all. So complex and evolving in your mouth.

These are all really solid Aussie gins. The Hartshorn sheep's way is wonderful; it's very delicate and is best just sipped neat or on rocks.

But to me the best Australian gin is definitely Never Never Southern strength. All NN gins are massive juniper bombs, but the southern strength has a really nice citrus element, and some Tasmanian pepperberry. It is absolutely delicious stuff and works well in any gin cocktail.

I've tried those, but like you said.. Juniper heavy, which I am not a fan of lol.

I haven't tried a single Aussie gin that I thought was bad to be honest, but with so much good selection, we are spoiled.

The only thing I have to critique is that many abuse of the lemony citrus profile (finger lime, lemon myrtle, blood lime), so many taste more or less the same. But hey, at least they are native botanicals.

Another worth mentioning is Tidal Lines infused with Illawarra plums. Great to drink on the rocks. Feel more like drinking a liqueur rather than a gin.

In Queensland now but headed to NZ in 7 days, I'll try them all thanks for the recs!

Native bar in Singapore makes their own ant gin and sold us a bottle. Super earthy. I’m surprised this one is so botanical, but hope I can find it to compare!

I've got a bottle on my shelf, it's nice.

Green ants are pretty nice. I've had them at Vue de Monde in a cantaloupe desert dipped in green ants.

They're naturally citrusy.

lol, I would try it!

Got a book somewhere at home on flavour chemistry, it was mentioned somewhere in there that some that some ant species produce limonene as a semiochemical and that some people boiled them up to make lemon-flavoured drink.

Their bites hurt like a bastard so this is payback I’m on board with.

Delicious stuff. You can also catch the ants, cut off the green bit of them and eat it
