In-person infant CPR classes?

Looking For

I feel like I’ve scoured the internet, but hoping I missed something. Strong preference for learning this skill in-person and don’t need a certification. Would also be cool if the class was exclusively child/infant focused, but I suppose having adult CPR skills would only benefit me. My baby is turning six months old soon and I’d like to learn CPR before starting solids. Better safe than sorry!

I took an online class and it actually helped me feel so much more confident when I started solids with my child. Just putting that out there in case you can’t find an in person. A few resources you might already know about, mostly on Instagram: @solidstarts and the solid starts website, @kids_eat_in_color, and @shantripp (she’s an RN, but posts tons of reminders about choking on her page). I used all of these as resources to know how to prepare food to minimize choking risk. I mostly used Solid Starts, they have an excellent library where you can type in a food and see how to cut/prepare it for the age/development of your child.

Thanks so much for this thorough reply! I’m a huge fan of Solid Starts! Did you happen to do their First 100 Days meal plan? I hear it’s a big vigorous… lol. Who did you take the CPR class with? I’m nervous about skills-transfer when learning online vs. in-person.

I didn’t use any specific plan, I went with what my daughter was into and started her at about 4-5 months (she was super interested in food when we would eat, grabbing it out of my hands, etc) but I didn’t wean her from breastfeeding until about 2.1 years? Anyway, I did use a service called Yumi for about 5 months, plus the foods that we were eating if I could easily prepare them for her too. I was working full time + pandemic and it was just too much to also be making my own baby food. You know your baby best and there’s absolutely no right way to do it. Whatever works for your family! My approach was what solid starts advocates, but I didn’t put any pressure on myself, our family, or her. She’s 3 now and loves food, she’s a bit pickier now, but will try almost everything which is all I hoped. She decides what and how much to eat, I decide what and when food is available.

I did my CPR through Thrive Training Institute which seemed mostly focused on families, but of course it’s online, so the real life practice isn’t there. I watched it multiple times though and you get access to the course I think the whole time you have certification? I don’t remember now. It did help me feel so much more confident though because I really didn’t know much about what choking might even look like in babies/children.

Good luck!! You got this! It’s really fun even if I was terrified sometimes (still terrified of mandarin oranges lol)
