a bicrocosm
“i can’t ride a bike”, i say,
leaning across the table so the strangers surrounding me might not hear,
as i giggle softly at the stupidity of it.
it’s kind of embarrassing, but even more so if i say it in the wrong tone.
by now, i have mastered the art -
it’s playful, almost charming at times.
not to mention great on first dates.
it’s weirdly intimate:
here is this thing that everyone learned and takes to be a commonality, but somehow i got left out.
i mean, it’s silly.
people probably think i just didn’t try,
or even worse that no one wanted to teach me,
but neither is true.
i tried, and so did they -
i just couldn’t do it.
i have actually always felt that i am rather bad at being a human,
and that i don’t really know how to do anything properly.
