Help with Assembly Mates with 8020 extrusion and accessories

Fairly new to Onshape, and I have been playing with some of the features, to speed up some framing design. Using 8020 extruded aluminum as a base, I wanted to mate one of the brackets to the extrusion, however, I don't really see how I can get the mate connectors on the mounting holes of the bracket to line up with the channel running down the length of the extrusion.

Only idea I have is to make all of my extrusion profiles symmetric across a plane and then hope that translates into the assembly for reference points.

Any quick advice would be appreciated so that I can get passed this bonehead obstacle and learn the right way.

I’ve run into the same issue myself. I’m not sure if this is the best way or not, but keep in mind you can add offset distances to your mates.

So, you don’t necessarily need to use a mate connector associated with the slot. You could use one of the other mate connectors and add an offset distance to the mate.
