Better times

Poem

I'm feeling reminiscent

Of all those nights that we spent Stargazing and talking until the sun rose with a mighty yawn

Singing the sky into the oranges and pinks of a summer dawn Like a small child drawing all over his poor mother's walls

We would speak of all the nonsensical things that could ever come to mind Does a crab believe that fish could fly?

Or those winter days that we spent Huddled and warm staring into the flickering flame of a bonfire

Our friends near, drinking and laughing with such youthful glee As we sat enjoying that fleeting time together

Our own private bubble of peace, tethered To the achingly cold earth The only barrier being your dad's old coat that he should've never lent you.

The ravens caw and circle as if dancing to a tune we could never learn to hear Do bugs enjoy birdsong as we do?
