My first poem on this sub titled, “Disappointment”
Since I was just thirteen years old, I’ve waited for her arrival. A shining light, to hold at night, she’d get me through my trials.
I had always felt more mature, sometimes so all alone. So I formed this idea in my head, a girlfriend would make me feel at home.
I fell in love with one girl, we had such great conversations! However she was nine months older than me, and I soon came to a realization.
To her I was too young to date, she wanted our older friend. And although it hurt me at the time, my searching would not end.
So through the years, one by one, sooner or later I’d be let down. And with every strike upon my heart, it was harder to rebound.
Now just a couple of months ago, I was dealing with depression. Out of the blue a girl in my class started showing me attention.
She asked to study, and I said yes. Then we went out on a date. However I wasn’t in the mood, so single would be my fate.
A few weeks passed, and I felt better. I soon realized my mistake. This girl was great, and liked me too! I hoped it wasn’t too late.
I asked her out a second time, to my luck she said yes! We had a wonderful, amazing time. How could I be so blessed?
But then soon after our third date, without an ounce of warning, on me she started to turn cold. I was already in mourning.
Were we still good? Was she ok? I asked her the next day. For break she would be going home. I felt her slipping away.
Afraid she’d end up like the rest I took courage, not fear. I poured my heart out in a text, hoping once again I’d see her.
I waited patient for a response. Though painful rejection would be fine! Hours later she reacted with a heart. She couldn’t even write one line?
So time and time, and time again, I’ve wondered what I’d done wrong. Could this be another end? Acceptance did not take long.
To describe this time, what’s the right word? Pain, frustration, grief, resentment? But now I think I’ve found the word. It’s a resounding, “disappointment.”
This is my first poem inspired by a recent rejection. I tried to have some structure to the stanzas, however I wasn’t too careful to count syllables, which I’d like to know if you guys think would have made it better. I also think that I could’ve shortened it a little, but I went for a full length story since this is my first poem outside of writing for school, etc. I will say it was very therapeutic writing about my feelings in a semi-structured way like this, and I’m excited to write more!
