Prophet: "God requires that you do X, otherwise Y will happen"/ "God requires you to do X, in order that Y might happen" / "Horrible event X will soon happen, but stay strong"
Medium: "Give me $20, and you can talk to your dead auntie"
Also, "God says X, and Y, and Z."
Medium: "I just have this tingling sensation that WHOAH YOUR AUNT IS BEHIND YOU!"
Prophet: hears directly from God. What he says actually comes to pass.
Medium: either makes it up or hears from demons. What they say may come to pass if the message was vague enough.
Mediums believe they are conduits for spirits.
Prophets speak for God

A prophet is given the word of God by God himself and a medium contacts the dead by using means that are not of God (satanic).
