Need recommendation for hair product(s)

Haircare

M, 33 here. I've always had short hair, because I'm lazy and slightly paranoid of using styling products. Trouble is that while I generally have very nice and thick hair, it grows in a "bear like" way. At about 2in, it starts curling slightly (in different directions too), and refuses to sit. This is where I usually give up and get a haircut.

Right now it's over 3in and I kind of like it. But I'm assuming it needs some sort of care now so am wondering what that might mean.

Hair profile - Slightly wavy when long. Not exactly frizzy. There's a fair number of whites that are definitely frizzy and more stubborn than the rest. Stays in place when wet, flies around and curls when dry. Scalp is normal I guess. Dandruff comes and goes suddenly based on how shit my diet has been a week prior.

Currently I use - Tresemme shampoo (the red one) once every 5 or so days, parachute coconut oil the night prior to shampoo.

What I'm looking for - primarily a daily styling product that can wash off with a water bath and no shampoo (and doesn't have all the bad chemicals). But I am open to suggestions on shampoos and other products as well.

You can try homade flaxseed gel - it's safe, good for the hair and has none of the chemicals you'd be worried about in a store-bought product. Washes off really easily. There are lots of YT videos that show you how to prepare it from flaxseeds.

Otherwise I've been using Arata gel and cream, Ashba leave in conditioner, Fix My Curls cream and gel, Garneir Hair foods all in the past two years, and haven't noticed any issues with the products.

Thanks! I'll check out the video.

For the off the shelf stuff, I've seen Arata on Myntra but I wasn't sure I'd be able to wash it off with just water. 😅

Would I find the rest there too? Or is there another website for this stuff?

There are lots of videos and channels dedicated to curly hair products. Most of the the stuff doesn't have silicones, so you don't need sulphate shampoos to wash it off, but yes you'll need a sulphate free, milder shampoo to clean your hair otherwise there will be build up. Curly hair requires a lot of moisture and definition to hold the style and be healthy.

Oh wait...my hair isn't curly. It's only curls ever so slightly when long, but otherwise it's straight. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

Yeah, so you would need only lightweight products like a leave in conditioner or a gel just to style. Nothing too heavy thats meant for curly hair. Like i said, flaxseed gel works great. Otherwise you can try the Arata cream, but only a small quantity for your hair type will do..
