[2264] The Gray Cat: You Sound So Sure

MG Sci-fi

Hey. Here's me tempting fate by dabbling in not just one but two genres I usually don't write. Would be interesting to get some outside perspective on this one, especially from those who do have experience with either genre.

Enough preamble, here's the premise: after losing his mom, eleven-year-old Sky has to stay with his dad for a while. His dad who happens to own and operate the Gray Cat, supposedly the best salvage ship in the sector, living a nomadic life that's a far cry from the upper-class existence Sky is used to. Then there's the little fact that they've never met each other before. Now Sky will have to carve out a place for himself on the Gray Cat alongside his estranged father Emmer, easy-going Garrison and the mysterious Hannah...

In other words, think Firefly for kids, just with less violence and cowboy hats and more family drama, haha. On second thought, I guess Firefly had its share of the latter too, but still. Fair warning: I have this as "sci-fi", but the science is about as hard as a silk pillowcase. It's primarily meant for younger readers, per the genre, but ideally it shouldn't put adults to sleep either.

Intended as the start of a full-length thing, but I have no idea about final word count.

As always, I appreciate all your feedback, as well as any lurkers reading this as they pass by unseen.
