Drinking Past Ten

Poem

The people who've loved you won't love you again.

That girl at the bar isn't a ten.

But you're sad, alone, and quite desperate too

So, you drink and you smoke 'til you're convinced it's true

Beguiled and buckwild, you'll walk up to her and say:

Are you a beaver, because dam you just took my breath away.

Then you'll watch as she smiles, of course, she's been drinking too

Just a pair of sad loners, with some hooking up to do.

You might stumble to her place, or take a cab back to yours

But by the time the clock strikes one, you'll be nothing but snores.

Hungover, ashamed, she'll leave around five.

There will be no one left to care if you are alive.

The people who've loved you won't love you again.

You broke your own heart, stop pondering when

Things will turn for better, most things don't.

Your life will never change if you certainly won't.
