23 with no experience but a economics degree and upcoming MBA. What jobs can I get?

Career planning

Title says it all. It doesn’t seem like I’m qualified for any position that pays even remotely well or would provide me with proper experience needed to move up.

You messed up hardcore getting an MBA directly after undergrad. Apply literally everywhere and consider leaving your MBA off if you don’t get any bites after enough apps.

This. Speaking from personal experience, getting an MBA too early hurts more than it helps.

You will still be entry level. That MBA isn’t the golden ticket people think it is without relevant experience.

I’m surprised you got accepted into a program without 5 — 7 years of experience as that is typically a requirement.

Some schools have MBA programs as an extension of undergrad, usually designed for people who majored in a non-business area who want a job. I have a buddy that did our school’s MBA program built into his senior year+1 year extension of college because he majored in Geography.

For people with an economics degree it frankly probably hurts more than helps. OP should treat it like a piece of paper and literally nothing more, he/she still just going to get entry level jobs.

That’s a good point. I’d forgotten about those programs. In this case, it could hurt more than it helps in terms of being seemingly overqualified for an entry level role but not being experienced enough for anything else. I do think the MBA will be more beneficial later in their career however.

Getting your MBA right after undergrad is heavily frowned upon & your school should have told you that. I would focus more on internships for MBA/Master’s students, I see them all the time on Linkedin. Next I would make connections with your MBA program Alumni to see if they can give you a referral at their company.

If all else fails, apply to entry level roles.

You will likely be entry level, but a leg up with an MBA. The college you went to can dictate your opportunities as well.

Commercial Finance at any company selling a product. Service/Product Line Teams

Start networking, go to conferences where hiring leaders will be. That's where you make the best connections to getting a job.

I am in the exact same situation with you. I got a Marketing degree and then went straight to get an MS in Media Management.

I looked for work while I was in school and empoyers told me no because I was full time in school, and now employers are telling me no because I have a lack of professional experience.

It's so frustrating and at this poing im ready to give up because I cannot even get a basic entry level job in anything I studied in school, or in other fields.

Just know you are not alone.

What’s with all the salt comments in here. Do these people commenting even have an MBA??

I’m 34 and about half way through mine with straight As and reading this was super discouraging. It’s been a ton of work.
