I had the actual worst interview of my life yesterday. For context I’m a seasoned executive assistant and the person conducting the interview was the CEO.

Their job listing read well and their in-house recruiter was great to talk to. Their CEO however was awful.

He showed up 40 minutes late. We talked for all of 20 minutes. He was rushed the entire time. He texted the entire time and would periodically lift his head to ask ‘what else should I know about you?’

Their recruiter told me it paid $90,000 although their actual range is a lot lower. $90,000 would be the top of their range.

He asked if I had kids and then proceeded to ask who was taking care of the kids if both my husband and

Friends, I’m wondering if there’s anyone out there that is interviewing for this opportunity?

I had a phone screening earlier. They said they’re screening a whopping 200 candidates. The role pays $72,000 a year. They openly said the executive is extremely demanding and referenced the Devil Wears Prada. I hate hate hate that reference especially for roles that pay a fraction of what that movie portrayed.

I’d recently returned from maternity leave and was blindsided and transferred into a different role. I’d been in my previous role for years and unsurprisingly, the new role is awful.

Solidarity to everyone else in this situation. This market is horrible. What a time. 😭

I feel like I’m stuck in an awful situation and I don’t know what to do anymore. 32 married to a 38 year old man. He’s self employed in the trades but lately it seems like that is really code for unemployed. He does HVAC. He hasn’t had meaningful projects since maybe October timeframe. He’s busier in the summer but just enough that is more comfortable; not anything to make a drastic difference or help sustain him throughout the year.

I told him that he needs to make smarter decisions with his time — One of the two contractors he works with he only made $3,000 with last year. He also drove two hours each way twice and spent probably several tanks of gas on a job where they couldn’t fix the

We have two kids under three. I’m in a corporate role at a large global org. He’s wonderful with the kids. I out earn him by $50,000 a year. We live normal everyday lives (nothing fancy at all) but we’d be homeless if it wasn’t for me and my income. I’m so tired of it I just want to cry most day

I’m currently pregnant w/ baby no. two and it is a boy. We already have a girl named Mila. H is Hispanic American and I am Bosnian American so we’re looking for something relatively simple that works across ‘most’ cultures.

We’re considering Luka but I’m not sure that I love it?

Other names I’ve liked are Leonardo; Oliver; Sebastian; and or Santiago but H has voted no on those. (😩)

Thoughts please? Thank y’all.

H and I have had issues with his mother since we got married — It instantly turned into a weird competition for her.

Hinting at needing $$$; about wanting to retire; asking for favors but not returning any favors; lack of boundaries around attempting to manage me and the children.

Everything is urgent and needs to happen right now. Language about how she’s dramatic and exaggerated but has no intention of changing.

The woman lives in a paid off home and drives a 2025 vehicle but told him she didn’t know how she’d survive having to pay her own $35 phone bill when he removed her. We rent and are in the home buying process.

I’d have no issue helping her or anyone if not for the controlli

I have a mother with either borderline or narcissism or possibly even both, honestly. We’re no contact after repeated years of me attempting to enforce boundaries with her.

Apparently now my mother in law is the same.

The constant guilt and victim behavior. The attempts at control. The framing everything as urgent and an emergency. The using that God will punish us (we’re not even religious) for disobeying. The hinting at needing $$$ and not wanting to work anymore.

All while this person has a paid off home and a brand new vehicle — clearly doing better than us financially as we rent.

This person has been an issue since we got married. The behavior is excused under I’m your mother an

Have any of you been in this situation before?

So I’ve been in my current role for years and have noticed a trend I would’ve previously attributed to being newer to an org but it seemingly has gone on forever instead.

I am quote unquote younger (as in early 30s) and supporting one of our busier and no nonsense c-suite people. I get on with them wonderfully although they’ve got quite the reputation as their team is generally the highest performing.

Although, I am younger I’ve never done anything else so I do have a lot of heavy experience for my age. I was told while interviewing that we’d need to elevate the experience comparatively because a lot of the other assistants don’t perform,

Is this normal behavior? MIL is constantly complaining about money although she’s got more saved than us honestly and lives in a paid off home and drives a 2025 vehicle. I’m an executive assistant to the c-suite at a large global org and husband is in the trades as an HVAC technician. We’re average everyday people with young kids.

I’m on call 24/7 in what is a high stress role and he’s working in extreme conditions considering the heat here. I’ve been very clear that I am not employed to support other adult people and she’s not getting a dime.

When we got engaged he was paying auto insurance and phone expenses for her and her other (adult) children in her home. I told him it needed to st

I will try to keep this brief. Husband and I share a toddler that I brought into the relationship — He’s the only father the toddler has ever known and they adore each other.

There’s odd history between husband and MIL as he was raised by the grand parents. Brought here at the age of fifteen and then treated more like a parent bc he was the oldest and she was a single mother to his three siblings. And it was to the extent that he was paying phone and insurance bills for the mother and all siblings when we got engaged and they called him for every crisis. He’s done a fantastic job managing that since we’ve been married.

Recently we went to see MIL and while there husband ran an errand fiv

Yesterday, husband (m36) and I (f30) went to his parents’ house with our two year old. Husband shortly leaves to get our shared vehicle inspected.

In the meantime toddler had pooped her pants but her bag with change of clothes and diapers was in the vehicle. Mother in law continued to tell me that the child needed to be changed. I explained that I didn’t have what was needed and was waiting for husband to return. It happened another 3x — Each time I had the same response. The child was not smelly and I didn’t see what the big deal was waiting the 15 or so minutes for him to return.

At time no. 4 here comes the sister to tell me to call him. At this point I feel like none of this makes an

Well to be fair I’ve only ever tipped at hair salons nail salons and or sit down restaurants. I’ve always thought tipping at counters was absurd and something we should’ve left behind in the pandemic.

Earlier I went to the nail salon and paid $50 for a basic pedicure — the cheapest that they offer and an eyebrow wax. I didn’t tip although I normally do tip 20 percent. If your prices are that high for basic services then you can afford to pay your employees properly.

I’m honestly so tired of being shaken down for a tip everywhere we go in society now.
