Card finally launched with little fanfare
Hi's card product has now launched which is a quite significant deal. Has anyone seen any ads regarding the launch? I've not even seen a post about the cards in r/CryptoCurrency. The Hi team may of course aim to keep the initial launch small-scale and make sure that everything functions properly.
A few first impressions about using the card:
- The virtual card was easily added to Curve
- The cashback seems to be almost instant
- In addition to fiat, only BTC, ETH and USDT are currently supported for direct spending. I'd hope to see other common assets like USDC.
- After updating the app, the rebates were quite easily selected and adjusted. I've yet to test a subscription rebate as my sub renewal dates are not close.
- The rebates / "lifestyle subscriptions" do not match all the services that were initially suggested as I distinctly remember seeing a PS plus logo.
- The list of lifestyle subscription options is quite extensive but seems not to be too inclusive as e.g. Tesco and Sainsbury's are included but more international options like Lidl are not.
- While the higher cashback rates are grandfathered in, the initially listed larger number of lifestyle subscriptions are not.
- The Hi token's functionality on the Hi platform seems to be somewhat frustrating at the moment. It can't be traded and you can use it for little else than staking it in order to earn more Hi faster. I can't comment on gaming/gambling functionality as that is not something I'm interested in.

I have now activated the card (U.K.) and I am looking to test it out through Curve. Do you have a fee-less way of topping up the card? I’ve activated the IBAN but there appears to be a charge from my bank for any transfer to the IBAN.
You can just do a normal transfer. Click on the information button and you can figure out the sort code + account number.
Yes, I just did this today and there were no fees. I’m in the UK and I think it uses the Faster Payment Service (FPS).
Thanks!
You may want to search for a bank that does not charge for IBAN transfers. I'd personally not accept a bank that charges for IBAN transfers. You may also want to look into internet-only neobanks including Revolut that should help you with this if you are not willing to look for a new brick-and-mortar bank.
Several platforms (including Nexo) offer a certain number of free of charge crypto transfers each month which could be used to move assets (USDT/ETH/BTC) to Hi.
Thanks for the reply, sounds like a good shout to me! My current banks both charge £9.50 per transfer so definitely looking for a cheaper/free alternative. Will look into Revolut.
Thanks for such a wonderful reply! TheGratitudeBot has been reading millions of comments in the past few weeks, and you’ve just made the list of some of the most grateful redditors this week!
