I'm seeking advice on how to present my case to a lawyer. My situation is complicated and funds are limited; previously I spent £5k with little result and hope to avoid similar issues.

Situation.

I was born in the UK, moved to the US in my 20s, married there, and returned to the UK in 2022 with my wife. In August 2023, I became disabled after an accident and spent six months hospitalized. Upon returning to work, my performance declined, leading to disciplinary action (resolved with union support).

I was made redundant in August 2025, followed by my wife’s redundancy at another company. We are now pursuing divorce, but I am waiting for my PIP claim outcome before proceeding.

Scenario:
Was made redundant in Sept. I quickly found work as a contractor earning day rates. If I don't work, I don't get paid, I don't get paid holidays, etc.

I worked 100% remote, there are no local offices, Since my redundancy my ex company has attempted to schedule 6 pick ups for my laptop, they state that I must be present in person to sign, they are only able to give AM/PM type windows so i need to take the day off.

Each attempt has so far failed for a multitude of reasons, from them being unable to locate the property to them being unable to get access (I'm amazed that Uber are more competent than an international courier, but here we are).
