Hi! In some need of advice / next steps how how to handle my Roth IRA given some income changes. I've recently started a new job (June 2025 )that has come with a salary increase from 130k to 160k. I've been contributing to a Roth IRA account (Fidelity) for the last few years, but now I will have exceeded the income bracket to contribute to one.

  • Am I OK to max out my Roth (I have not for this year yet) for 2025 even through my income has jumped up?
  • If I want to begin the process of a backdoor Roth for, how would I start that / any recommended resources?
  • Any other advice here? The "I wish I would have known's" before types of things?

I'm a self taught money manager and not super co

On 8.28.23, I paid off the rest of my student loans. I did this in 101 payments, over 7 years, with some help from a global pandemic and government interference. $32.5k, gone, with one final transfer of my anxiously awaiting funds.

And during this weird window: I paid off my car ($9.5k), lived in several apartments with different roommates, moved to New York City, doubled my income over 3x different jobs, started a 401k, maxed my ROTH 2x years in a row, went through a massive breakup, started an HSA, done some solo traveling, and I’ve never had credit card debt over $1k. In March, I turned 30.

I am as broke, but as free, as I’ve ever been.

I thought I’d feel more moved by all of this. I’

Just returned from my first solo travel experience (not work related, purely for my own interest), and it was so great. I flew from NYC to Seattle and did some backpacking/roadtripping around the PNW WA peninsula. I'm an independent person and don't mind doing things on my own, but I'd never really figured I'd go somewhere by myself just for the sake of doing it. I see why this is addicting and why people intentionally travel solo, even if they've got options for companions.

WHAT I LOVED
My time was really my own. I made decisions exclusively for myself. I could change it up last minute and not be worried about how it affected someone else. There was an openness to strangers that I en

All these boys just look the same
A similar face, a similar name
An algorithms knowing game
With pick me rules that feel so vain
Laid back mood, relaxed, please be
Cocktails pour, the sex is free
“Travel the world” they beckon to me
A pretty face is all they see
Swipe up and left, perhaps it’s right
The hours dwindle in the night
There’s future plans come morning ligh
tI grit my teeth and smile in spite
“Chill girl, please just don’t ask too much
I’ll pump the breaks; claim it’s a rush
”It’s never more than just a crush
A disappointed suitor’s blush
Black ties, white lies, those smiling eyes
We all assume we’re such a prize
And where the truth of their hea

I got a text messages from my ex’s mom yesterday. It was a message “wishing me a very happy new year full of good things”

We haven’t spoken since August 2021 when my ex and I separated. It wasn’t a mutual decision and it was the right thing for us both given the circumstances, but it’s been difficult for me to let the relationship and him go internally.

I had a good relationship with her and his family, but I always understood that they were the family and not my ‘friends.’ Texting for us wasn’t a normal thing.

I feel weird about her note. On one hand it’s validating in some sense. On the other, it confuses me needlessly. I don’t think she realizes how this makes me feel complicated thoug

It’s time to talk about the City of Angels. El-Lay. The city of hopes and dreams. It’s the golden child of the West and it has quite the frenemies relationship with my newfound Big Apple, grumbling home in the East. East coasters love to say, “NY is a shitty heaven, LA is a beautiful hell”...but we’ve all heard “West Coast, Best Coast.”

Unfortunately, I feel more connected to LA than I have in years simply because I, begrudgingly, keep running into it.

The clients I interface with are located there and provide me with weather updates on our status calls. Most of the people I’ve met in my neighborhood are from SoCal, and make frequent references. Everyone I work with now has some connectio

When you have a moment, whisper my name into your sheets.

Try it, out laud

Will a storm in you rise? Face feel the heat?

Will your heart tell you a different story?

Will.

Will you?

I do wonder of you.

Can’t say it’s selflessly so.

But I do hope you’re growing into the man

You longed for when you chose to go.

If you wonder of me

When it’s later in your night

I speak your name into my pillow, forgiving this hurt

Quietly, though, so my want won’t hear

Though I feel another sort of level head

As I’m letting up my fight .

Home is home now. Zip codes change.

And zipped deep in my heart

Is the hope you’re out there,

Maybe,

Practicing a peaceful way to speak out my name.

We used to have this silly conversation about March. I always considered March to be the sneak peak to spring. It was unpredictable but offered teasers, relief, and surprise. Sure, it could be bitter and windy. The month can feel never ending and tiresome. You can’t confidently closet your parka or sweaters. Brisk, humid, gray, windy...all March qualities. But in the northern hemisphere, a balmy day in March is magical. It’s an instant celebration. A universal understanding that warmer weather, longer days, and sunshine is ahead. It’s an amazing reward Mother Nature gives us for enduring the darkness and chill of the preceding winter. The fleeting glimpses of idyllic conditions are enough to

As the half year milestone rolls around, my headspace feels similar to last month. Some days I’m up, some days I’m down, and all days ring with internal dissonance.

I write these posts because logging chapters gives me something to look forward to; that time is moving my healing along, and I have markers to better document that scarification. Is anyone following? I don’t know but it’s therapeutic for me. Fictionalizing this process helps me put emotional space between my present and past self. Besides - the window of tolerance by friends and family has mostly closed.

Maybe someone can see their own journey in my words. How do you connect with your new world and not draw attention yoursel

Cruel

Poem

Cruel, I ask.
Am I cruel?

Cruel to keep to myself.
Cruel not to reach.
Cruel not to share.
Cruel to retreat.
Am I cruel to you?
Perhaps.
This would hurt me too.

Perhaps…I am crueler to me
Then I am to you.
For all the ways I wish to
dig where the soil may be dry
Where maggots feed on decaying fruit
But instead, I mistake for happy worms

Crueler to sprint over the freeway.
Dodging silent signals from the 101
Searching for the home I thought I had
Only to find the sale was pending
Late into the hour

Crueler still to replay the words in my head
Though I tell them to shut up.
That these were your instructions
And it’s my fault I

Today, my mind is like pine sap. Sticky, slow, sweet, and bitter.

Yesterday I was vibrating. Laughing a genuine, sing song laugh. The butterfly of newfound hope flapped her wings under my rib cage. These were seedlings of a beginning untouched by him. Untouched by a previous me. I could see the horizons of newness entirely unimpacted by a good man’s interest. The smokey perfume of love, sex, and pleasure have dissipated. My senses are opening.

The weight of disappointing someone based on my actions has lifted. Locations are reduced to that – locations. Simple coordinates on a map presenting new side quests but no longer carrying the high expectation of someone else’s dreams and ideals. W
