Hi, I’m Captain Sheep. I’ve been writing for about 8 years now, and I’ve been what I consider “serious” about it for 5 or 6 of those years. That includes a couple of publications in small journals, lots of hours in workshop, and some years working as a sort of editor/writing tutor in college. I’m looking for writing buddies, critique partners, or anything in between!

My favored genres are literary fiction, experimental fiction, sci-fi, and most of all any combinations of the three. My main work in progress has toes in all three (most firmly in sci-fi), but it is still in the early stages. Though I have quite a few short stories under my belt and always have one or two on the backburner

Hey everyone, back again with another story that I promise to actually post all of this time. I decided my last story needed revisions radical enough that posting the second half as it was would have been worthless, but I feel a lot better about this one. This is a lot less big-L-Literary than what I usually write, but I want to perhaps tune it up to be closer to that style while still retaining some of the advantages that come from being genre-fiction-y. Besides that, I'd like feedback on everything but particularly on characterization and character motivations. Hope you enjoy!

Hey everyone,

Here's part one of a short story that I wrote earlier this year and recently came back to with a fresh set of eyes. The whole thing is written already and would be presented as one continuous short story, but I think y'all would prefer it if I didn't drop just under 7,000 words at once. I'll post the second half in a few days, perhaps editing it based on any feedback I receive here.

I would describe the genre as near-future sci-fi or speculative fiction. Otherwise it's (hopefully) pretty self-explanatory. I'm looking for any and all feedback, but I'm particularly concerned with whether or not the second set of charecters works, as that was a big point of criticism the first

Hey RDR,

This is my first submission to the subreddit, and it's a bit of a weird one. I wrote this prose poem a few months back for a class and my professor said I should polish it up and try sending it around to journals and such. So, after giving it some time to breath, I'm diving back in to get this thing up to very polished/10.

In terms of more specific feedback requests, I don't have all that much. Give me everything and anything you've got to say, and thanks in advance!

I got into an argument with some friends over this one and there are a few parts to it. We all acknowledged that phone use (assuming something like just browsing reddit so you can control for the sound aspect) is negitive on sleep as compared to doing nothing. However, the argument started when we tried to figure out how reading a physical book works. The friend that started this whole thing said that he just leaves the lights in his room on until he’s done reading as opposed to using a lamp or something (unsure if that would make a difference).

Said friend argued this:

Book > nothing > phone

Meanwhile, I argued this:

Nothing > phone = book

There are some other possib
