I received my non-4k fireTV stick today and, after 3 (THREE) consecutive updates, I discover that it doesn't have automatic framerate switching??? What the hell?

I precisely bought this thing after seeing a bunch of articles from 2018 claiming it had been added as a feature, but apparently that was only for the 4k variant? How does this even make sense?

This is so stupid it offends me, honestly. It's not like Amazon markets this feature for their flagship device, so I don't see why it should be the only one having it. It makes zero sense.

This is such a basic feature I consider this piece of trash basically unusable now. So much for smart TV, this thing misses dumb TV features for god's s

So, lately I've been toying around with vfio passthrough on my laptop; here are it's IOMMU groups:

IOMMU Group 0: 00:00.0 Host bridge [0600]: Intel Corporation 8th Gen Core 4-core Processor Host Bridge/DRAM Registers [Coffee Lake H] [8086:3e10] (rev 07)

I have a laptop with Intel uhd graphics 630 and Nvidia GTX 1660Ti with a 144hz 1080p panel where I have installed Manjaro Gnome (3.34.1), and I must say: I really like the design language of GNOME.

Unfortunately, when I have my integrated gpu drive it (with the modesetting driver), the performance is not good. By that I mean that it clearly doesn't run at 144hz, rather it seems to me more like 60 or less. This is everywhere, from moving windows around (where it is most noticeable) to just about every animation, nothing is completely smooth.

On the other hand, when I configure my optimus setup to use the Nvidia gpu, everything is as smooth as it should be.

So far I've tried to set CLUTTER\

So I've been trying tu learn Vulkan for the past few days, and am already confused by how the presentation engine is supposed to work under nvidia's implementation.

First, if I create a swapchain with, let's say, 4 images, then, for every possible present mode, the indices that vkAcquireNextImageKHR returns are always sequential, that is, it will go 0, 1, 2, 3, 0, 1, 2, 3, ...

Here's the confusing bit: if I choose VK_PRESENT_MODE_MAILBOX_KHR i expect the driver to hold onto one image for any whole frame, and only let me acquire the other 3 images, but this is not what happens.

Maybe this could be explained by the fact that the driver copies the contents of the currently-

As the title suggests I'd like to know how fast 8bitdo's controllers poll, especially over usb, since 125hz vs 1000hz can make quite a bit of difference latency-wise.

If you don't know how to check this, I suggest using evhz under Linux (not sure about Windows).

If the reported rate is 125hz it'd be awesome if you could check the requested rate like this, so maybe it can be overclocked.

Thanks in advance, I'm really looking forward to the soon to be released SN30 GP, they look absolutely great!

Hi all, I'm a free time game developer trying to figure out fast paced networking.

I read about the client(s)-server model, and so far my understanding is ok, but there are some key points that I cannot find mentioned anywhere.
A recap of what I understand:

  • clients and the server have an update loop with the same tick rate where clients read keyboard (and mouse) input and both update the physics simulation. Let's say this update is run every 15ms.
  • clients send inputs to the server. (One every 15ms? Grouped in a bigger packet?)
  • the server accepts these packets and puts them in a ordered list. When the update loop is run, all the inputs from every client is accounted for
