Hi all,

I'm trying to set up a plugin model where the model can be associated with many interfaces, and any interface can only be associated with one instance of the plugin model. If it were allowed, this would be easily done by adding a ForeignKey field to the Interface model pointing at my plugin's model - but plugins cannot extend the base models.

Is there a standard pattern for doing this in Netbox? It looks like using a ManyToManyField in my plugin's model with a Constraint on it ought to work, but it doesn't feel right to me.

Am I missing something really obvious? Or is the fact that I'm trying to do this a sign that I might be getting my model design wrong?

Hi r/networking!

Does anyone have any operational experience they can share of using an ASR1002 as a peering/transit router? This would be for a couple of full BGP transit feeds and roughly 150 peers, pushing less than 2Gb/s total traffic.

Any gotchas I should be aware of? Any factors which would make it totally unsuitable (e.g. BGP processing speed)?

Thanks for any advice!

Despite theory saying that it is nigh on impossible, I occasionally (maybe once every two years, typically at the same time as network outages) see some of our caching resolvers get poisoned. This will typically take the form of a high profile address, e.g. www.microsoft.com, get redirected to a site which obviously is not Microsoft.

On the face of it, this might seem like an easy problem to solve: for any site, check what address(es) my resolver gives out, check what address(es) a different resolver gives out and if they don't match then something is wrong. Thanks to DNS load balancing, geolocation and various other techniques, about 60% of the domains I was checking had false positive a

I've just had an email to tell me that season 5 has (finally) arrived on Netflix UK. I know what I'm going to be binge watching over the next few days...

Hi all, I'm a pretty good sysadmin, but I'd like to be a great one. One thing I occasionally see on lists of things that you should know as a sysadmin is tools like DTrace and Systemtap. Now, I've read the manual pages and the documentation but I've never managed to understand when a sysadmin would use these tools.

So, systems administrators of Reddit, have you ever come across a situation where Systemtap has helped you diagnose a problem? What are the real life use cases for it?

Hi all, I know that the Bluetooth on the Pebble does not support multipoint connections, so there is no way to have one Pebble talking directly to two phones.

That said... I have two Android phones (one work, one personal.) Does anyone know of any apps or configuration tricks so that notifications could get sent from phone 1 to phone 2 to the Pebble? Is this something which it would be possible to write an app for or would the Android implementation of Bluetooth prevent this?

I'm writing a system which takes in a query and proxies it off to several other systems, and then returns all the results in one page. I've currently got two upstream systems configured.

All the upstream systems are queried at once using async.parallel and then what I intended was that all the different results would be collated. What I'm finding is that the results from the first query are also passed to the callback for the second query.

I'm a fairly novice programmer and a lot more comfortable with simple procedural languages than asynchronous systems with callbacks everywhere, so I suspect there's a bug caused by lack of understanding.

The code is at https://github.com/DanAnkers/mul
