[1] How do I think about shims (are they washers?) for gearboxes? For reasons concerning wiring, I had the gearbox to my Classic Army M14 EBR opened up (multiple times). I found after the fact that I'd dropped a tiny washer from one of the gear shafts, how do I work out where that should go? And in a more general sense, how could I know such things for any gearbox I open up, on any future gun?

[2] Second question about gearboxes: What's the high-level answer to "how do I upgrade my gearbox?" I know there's gears, springs, pistons, piston tubes, feeder tubes, and more, but I don't know what kinds of mods get what kinds of benefits. *(kinda like brakes/tires/shocks for handling, intake

In text form:

  1. Right-click Rimworld in Steam and at the bottom of the menu click Properties.
  2. Click the button labeled "Set Launch Options..."
  3. Add the line
    -popupwindow

  4. Click Okay
  5. ProfitLaunch Rimworld

If you were already running Rimworld fullscreened, you'll need to un-check that option and possibly re-launch to get the setting to take. Tada. You can now move your mouse to other screens or just alt+tab around without losing your goddamned mind because of the performance hiccups just because you want to take notes on what you're doing.

Bonus effect: the Snipping Tool is wayyy more ef

In Slic3r, you can do the lambda boxes and change how much infill is in certain parts of the print, maybe make the base of your headphone stand have 60% infill and the rest have just 15%, so it's now heavier on the bottom, right?

I wanna take that further to make oddly balanced prints that if printed with normal infill would fall over, but don't if you get the infill % high enough in the right area to bring the center of balance back over the base.

If you've seen the Make It Stand project, that's basically what I want to do, but with just simple shapes that don't look like they should balance. And software that isn't a hacked together college p

The recent and excellent story The Jack reminded me of The Delights of Rax, and other stories where a downed ship leads to humans and xenos on an unknown planet and they need to survive.

I would like to read more stories like those, with that "getting to know each other while surviving" feel.

I love the versions with the initial distrust like The Jack and Rax, but there's other ways for the story to go, like The First Human that punches you
