Hi again reddit! You guys always enjoy my technical blogs so much so I wanted to share another with you. I hope it is informative and entertaining. Click this link for a much better formatted version.

This blog is intended to be a brief overview of a few techniques for generating heightmap terrain in your games. It will follow the format of the other blogs, so there's gonna be lots of pictures! This blog will not be telling you the general workings of planet rendering. Instead it will focus solely on heightmap terrain generation, assuming that you have a working understanding of procedural noise techniques.

Hey guys. Right now the only active mods are I and u/Devbug that I can tell, and I don't check the subreddit every day. If any of you long time voxeldevs would like to hop on the moderation team and help us keep spammers like Riitoken (recently banned) from flooding our sub, just let me know. For example u/Doggettx u/AlwaysGeeky u/Frizzil u/ngildea u/DavidWilliams_81 u/Sleakes u/dougbinks (I'm sure I forgot people) I'm sure many of you are as busy with your voxel projects as I am but with more trusted moderators It wouldn't really be too much work.

The pay is what you guys are already used to, nothing ;D

Edit1: I have added u/Sleakes u/DavidWIlliams_81 u/ngildea u/dougbinks to

Hello again gamedevs! You guys really seemed to like the gas giant blog from a couple weeks ago, so I figured I would post the newest tutorial on star rendering.

CLICK HERE for a much better formatted version.

EDIT: I changed the corona to be more realistic. Go to the blog and scroll down the bottom of step 6 to see the new method. Video of it in action.

Procedural Gas Giant Rendering with GPU Noise

The title sounds scary, but I assure you that you can do this too!

In the main storyline for Seed of Andromeda the player crash-lands on Aldrin, which is a moon of the gas giant Hyperion. In order to provide the player with a dazzling scene from the surface of Aldrin, we needed a way to render beautiful gas giants in real time. We also needed to make sure it was easy to manually create or randomly ge

Hey gamedevs!

I know there's a lot of people here who are probably interested in planetary rendering and voxels, but combining them is hard. So I believe that an explanation of my new method for mapping and rendering voxels for full scale planets will intrigue you!

First part of the video gives an overview of the old method, and why it is bad, while the second part talks the new method. I also do a bit of speculation on how No Mans Sky does their voxel planet mapping.

If you want to steal this method or similar for your own planets in your own game, do so freely, but please mention where you
